Posted March 01, 2019 08:16:23 Ben Zelle, who has worked at the Dallas Fire Department for 15 years, was killed in a fire.
Zelle was a firefighter for the department since 1993.
He was the second Dallas firefighter to die in the line of duty this year.
His death comes on the heels of a deadly fire that claimed the life of another firefighter.
The Dallas Fire Rescue Service said in a news release Monday that Zelle was one of three firefighters on duty that night in an apartment building in the city’s southwest suburb of Plano.
A source told NBC News the building where the fire took place had no sprinklers or smoke detectors.
The fire also took place in a building in Plano’s northwest neighborhood.
Fire officials said no one was inside the building at the time.
