The RTE has learned from sources close to the investigation that the fire fighting tankers are being used in a similar manner to the one deployed to rescue a woman trapped in a burning building.

The firefighting tanker is currently being used by the RNLI to assist with fire fighting in the town of Clonakilty.

Sources have told RTE that the RTE is aware of the use of the firefighting tankers by the RLM.

A spokesperson for the RNLIF confirmed that the tankers were being used to assist in the rescue operation but would not comment on whether it was being used as part of the rescue team.

A spokeswoman for the RFIQ said the RFPs for these tanks were submitted in early 2016 and that the company was working with the authorities on a possible investigation into the matter.RFIQ spokesman James O’Donoghue said that as a company operating under the RFLR’s guidelines the RFSM was not responsible for the use or misuse of its personnel.
