By JULIAN HAGAN The Associated Press May 10, 2019 12:00:30Firefighters are seeing their sales dip in May as the number of new recruits is dwindling and sales for the next three months are limited.
The latest figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show the average selling price of a firefighter was $50,400 in May.
That was down 7.4% from May 2017.
Sales for July were $50.1 million, down 1.9%.
Sales for August were $48.3 million, up 2.5%.
Sales were up 1.5% in the first half of the year to $48 billion, and are forecast to reach $53 billion this year.
Firefighter training has also declined in the last year.
Sales of new firefighter training, which was up 9.5%, were down 4.3%.
There were 4,922 firefighters for the year in the National Guard, National Guard Reserve, Reserves and National Guard Auxiliary.
There were 2,074 in the Army National Guard.
There were 2.8 million in the Marine Corps Reserve.
The Air Force Reserve had 2.1m.
